Medical Robotics System Engineer.
ROS 2 · Python SDK · medical agentic platform. You are the bridge between the agentic layer — MCP orchestrator, LLM, agents — and the robot: ROS 2 middleware, controllers, hardware. Your job: make the two work together, in real conditions, safely and in compliance.
The role at a glance
Eight facts before you read on.
Why now
You arrive at the inflection point.
MedicalCity builds the software infrastructure that makes clinical AI production-ready — an MCP server for medical AI agents, HDS-ready, multi-tenant, designed for environments where data touches the patient. Our first deployment combines the agentic platform with a fleet of humanoid robots for in-home and care-home support, funded through France’s public APA benefit.
The agentic platform runs, a signed LOI with the Seine-et-Marne county (CD77) anchors our first pilot, we are raising a €5M seed round, and the CE (MDR) certification path is underway. We are moving to industrialisation: physical integration of humanoid and mobile-manipulator robots in real clinical environments. This is a critical hire — not an isolated R&D role. You will join a tight team (CEO/CTO + 2-3 engineers in H2 2026), with direct exposure to the Comex and clinical partners, and the ability to shape engineering practices from day one.

Your mission
Five workstreams, one bridge.
ROS 2 system architecture
Design and maintain the ROS 2 architecture connecting our agentic stack to physical platforms: nodes, services, lifecycles, launch files, DDS tuning. Define the interface contracts between the MCP orchestrator and the robotics middleware, consistent across humanoids, mobile manipulators and arms.
Robotic platform integration
Bring-up new platforms: integrate vendor SDKs (LimX, Unitree, Fourier…), validate behaviour, prepare for operational use. Implement and adapt controllers — navigation, manipulation, voice and multimodal interaction. Containerise the full stack (Docker, edge deployment, embedded targets).
Deployment & commissioning
Deploy and commission on client sites: care homes (EHPAD), home-care operators (SAAD), partner technical platforms. Run V&V campaigns in real environments. Reduce the time between demonstration and production.
Quality, reliability, observability
Build and maintain the test infrastructure: robotics CI/CD, simulation (Gazebo/Ignition), digital twins. Logging, observability, reproducibility — including for extended autonomous operations. Debug across layers: hardware, firmware, middleware, application.
Compliance & patient safety
Contribute to the technical documentation of the CE file (ISO 13482, IEC 80601-1-9, MDR 2017/745, Regulation (EU) 2023/1230). Apply HDS, GDPR and AI Act requirements to robotic data flows (audio, vision, telemetry). Contribute to physical- and patient-safety risk analyses.
What we’re looking for
Must-have, and what sets you apart.
Must-have
- Confirmed mastery of ROS 2 — node architecture, DDS, lifecycle, launch, URDF/TF2, Navigation 2, MoveIt 2
- Expert Python — SDK development, internal tooling, integration scripts, packaging
- Field experience integrating robotics on real physical platforms — you have already put a robot into production
- Docker in a robotics context (build, edge deployment, real-time constraints)
- Linux (Ubuntu 22.04+) + Git + CI/CD (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- French at B2+ level (clinical and partner interactions) · professional English
Strong differentiators
- Experience with humanoids or mobile manipulators (LimX TRON, Unitree, Fourier, Agility…)
- Knowledge of real-time systems (PREEMPT_RT, RTOS, real-time DDS)
- Exposure to a regulated environment (medical, aerospace, defence) — you know what a risk analysis is
- Simulation experience (Gazebo, Ignition, Isaac Sim) and sim2real practices
- Proficiency in C++ on critical paths
- Contributions to a public SDK or an open-source robotics project
- Mandarin Chinese — our robot vendors (LimX, Unitree…) and academic ecosystem are Chinese-speaking
Honest signal
What this role is not.
An isolated R&D role
~70 % of the time is field integration and system debugging.
A pure software job
Data touches patients — safety is non-negotiable.
A consumer environment
HDS, MDR and AI Act constraints sit at the heart of every technical decision.
Work-from-anywhere
You will be on-site regularly, with the robots and the people they serve.
Tech stack
The tools of the bridge.
| Robotics | ROS 2 (Humble/Iron/Jazzy), DDS (CycloneDDS, Fast DDS), MoveIt 2, Navigation 2, URDF/xacro |
| Languages | Python (primary), C++ (critical paths), Bash |
| Infra | Docker, Linux (Ubuntu 22.04+), Git, CI/CD |
| Cloud & data | HDS-ready hosting (Scaleway), MQTT/gRPC for patient-adjacent streams, observability |
| Agentic | MCP (Model Context Protocol), LLM orchestration, agentic frameworks |
| Simulation | Gazebo/Ignition, RViz, Foxglove |
| Target hardware | Humanoids (LimX, Unitree…), mobile manipulators, arms · LiDAR / RGB-D / IMU sensors |
What we offer
A mission you can measure.
- A clear, measurable mission: take a humanoid robot from demonstration to production autonomy, in an environment where data touches the patient
- Direct impact: you sit on the critical path of CE certification, the CD77 pilot and replication
- A diverse fleet: humanoids, mobile manipulators, arms — from PoC to operational deployment
- A tight, senior team: product founders, direct clinical contacts, zero politics
- Compensation: €55-75k gross/year depending on profile + BSPCE (warrants)
- Open stack: you choose your tools, as long as HDS and MDR constraints are met
